Corrugated box production in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, the corrugated box industry is booming

Maharashtra, India’s industrial powerhouse, is also a major player in the rapidly expanding corrugated box manufacturing industry. Corrugated box production in Maharashtra thrives due to a variety of factors, making it an important contributor to both the state’s and India’s economic strength

An Industry Leader in Packaging:

From textiles and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) to cars and pharmaceuticals, Maharashtra is a centre for a variety of industries. In Maharashtra, there is a huge demand for corrugated boxes due to this diverse industrial base. For the safe transportation and storage of a variety of products, these sturdy, environmentally friendly boxes are perfect for packaging.

A corrugated box: what is it?

Corrugated cardboard is formed into corrugated boxes by gluing, nailing, or die-cutting the cardboard. Among the many packaging products available, corrugated boxes are the most commonly used and have always been the top choice.

The process of manufacturing corrugated boxes

Card lardboxes are prefabricated industrial boxes that are mainly used for packaging materials and goods. They are recyclable as well. Industry experts rarely refer to cardboard as such because it does not refer to a particular material. A cardboard box that has been constructed with a grid of parallel ridges and grooves to increase its strength and rigidity is referred to as corrugated.

The corrugated box manufacturing process involves the following steps:

Step 1.

Brown Kraft paper is the raw material used to make the corrugated box. The first step in this process is to pass the Kraft papers through a corrugator or corrugation machine. The corrugation machine attaches and corrugates two layers of paper, and the auto cutter cuts it to the required size.

Step 2.

Following corrugation, the paper is run through a pasting machine, which pastes the sheets together to give them strength and thickness. The strength of corrugated boxes is categorized into three, five, seven, and so forth layers. The products used and the kind of handling needed determine the ply value of the boxes. For instance, one fluted paper layered between two line boards makes up a three-ply box. Lightweight and delicate items can be shipped and stored in this kind of box. Similarly, five-ply boxes will contain three linerboards and two fluted papers sandwiched together.

Step 3

The paper is then fed through a creaser in accordance with size, following the Pasting machine, in the following step.

Step 4

After passing through a cleaver, the paper is fed through a slotting machine, which slots or cuts the sheet material to prepare it for the initial form of the box—that is, the size that one needs.

Step 5

The last step involves running the sheet through a sewing machine, which sews the sheets together to create the required box.

At last, the boxes are prepared.

Depending on the needs of the client, one more process may be added. i.e., printing the client’s emblem or logo during the final printing step.

Maharashtra is a leader in corrugated box production in India because of its robust industrial base, advantageous location, trained workforce, and emphasis on sustainable practices. The Maharashtra corrugated box industry is ideally positioned to supply the increasing demand for these eco-friendly packaging options, ensuring the long-term viability of the sector.
